56 crew members tested positive for COVID 19

At least 45 crew members of the 'Verdel' were isolated in a hotel in Puerto Madryn after being tested positive for coronavirus. They assured that they had no contact with the community. They also detailed that 11 of the 15 sailors who remained on board also tested positive for COVID-19.The ship had arrived on Sep 17 at dawn. Part of the crew said they had symptoms compatible with the coronavirus.
For this reason, the ship anchored off the port and six crew members were swabbed. Five of them tested positive, but at that time they claimed that there were about 40 who had symptoms. On Sep 21 it was confirmed that at least 45 of the sailors were tested positive for coronavirus.

Six crew members tested positive for COVID-19

The "Marcala l" arrived at the port of Mar del Plata on Sep 19, 2020, with a crew member suffering from symptoms compatible with Covid-19. The crew was transferred to the Valles hotel on Santiago del Estero and Luro streets, complying with the protocol as stipulated with the transfer by ambulance and pertinent measures.
Once they were lodged at the hotel, they were swabbed and the results arrived on Sep 21, showing six positive tested crew members at the moment.

Bulkcarrier banned from Australia

On Sep 22, 2020, the AMSA banned the 'AC Sesoda' from Australian ports for deliberately underpaying its crew by more than AUD $118,000. They boarded the ship at Mourilyan on Sep 17 to investigate allegations about underpayment. During the investigation, evidence confirmed that a number of crew had only been paid half of their wages since October 2019.
The ship’s master and Taiwanese operator, Sincere Industrial Corporation, attempted to conceal the underpayment from the inspectors by only producing a fabricated wage record. The AMSA detained the ship and the operator was directed to pay the outstanding wages. Since then, they received evidence that the crew had been paid the outstanding wages and a rectification action plan developed by the operator. The ship was released from detention and issued with a 12-month ban, prohibiting it from entering an Australian port. It was the fourth ship that we have banned this year for serious and breaches of the Maritime Labour Convention. Collectively, the seafarers on these four ships were underpaid in excess of $290,000, funds which were recovered through our actions.

Robbers stole ship's equipment

On Sep 6, 2020, at 4.30 a.m. the duty able seaman of the 'Arguello' noticed that the lock of the bosun's store was broken, at the south harbour anchorage of Manila in position 14 33 15.0N, 120 52 12.6E. The general alarm was raised immediately. Following a search of the bosun's store, it was revealed that the ship's stores including fire nozzles, fireman suits, breathing apparatuses, unlocking twist lock, a flashlight and a scaling machine, had been stolen. The incident was reported to the Manila port authorities and the Philippine Coast Guard.

On Sep 5, 2020, at 2.20 a.m. the duty crew of the 'Ela', which was moored at Manila Anchorage, reported to the bridge that he had spotted a perpetrator on the forward bow behind a life-raft. The crewman proceeded to check the area and noticed that the perpetrator wore a mask and was holding a knife. The alarm was raised immediately and a search was conducted. The perpetrator had already escaped from the vessel after stealing two breathing apparatuses and a gong. The incident was reported to the Manila port authorities and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). The PCG conducted an inquiry into the incident. None of the crew members were injured.

SEA WATCH 4 Detention in Palermo

The 'Sea Watch 4', after assisting the Spanish Open Arms NGO vessel 'Open Arms' with the transfer of migrants off the port of Palermo, was forced to enter the port for COVID 19 disinfection and isolation purposes, and subsequently was detained after a Port State Control which lasted 11 hours on Sep 18, 2020.
Officials had justified the measure by saying saving people was not in accordance with the ship's registration. Among other things, the Italian authorities objected that the vessel had too many life jackets on board and that the sewage system was not adequate for the number of people rescued. The inspection was critizied for not being a matter of checking the ship's safety, but a deliberate measure to prevent civilians carrying out sea rescues in the central Mediterranean,, according to Philipp Hahn, head of operations on the Sea-Watch 4.
Another of the groups operating the ship, United4Rescue, said that German authorities had confirmed to the Sea-Watch NGO in July that the ship met all safety requirements.
It was the fifth time that a civilian rescue ship has been thus impounded. The 'Sea-Watch 3' was confined to port for almost six months in 2019.

Migrants to be landed in Palermo

On Sep 2 at 4 p.m. the 'Sea-Watch 4' was due to dock in Palermo with 353 rescued migrants on board. They were suffering from fatigue and multiple trauma. The ship has on board a crew of 28, among them doctors. The situation on board was tense, but to handle. After the arrival in port the people aboard will be quarantined for two weeks.

Boy with burns medevaced

A boy has been evacuated from the 'Sea Watch 4' while more than 200 migrants remained on the vessel stranded off Sicily. On Aug 25 the Italian Coastguard medevaced the boy who was suffering from severe fuel burns caused by a mix of salt water and engine fuel. He was taken to hospital after medical staff on board the 'Sea-Watch 4' said the severity of his condition exceeded the capacity of emergency facilities on board. The migrant ship meanwhile waits for permission to be assigned to a safe port. Both Italy and Malta have refused its entry. Over 90 of the castaways had been given emergency showers for exposure to the fuel used to power the engine whih generates noxious fumes and is highly corrosive when mixed with salt water. On Aug 25 the medical team was continuing to monitor for the development of burns as well as following up with more than 30 people who had acute hypothermia.

AM QUEBEC Engine trouble off Westray

The 'AM Quebec', enroute from Milne Inlet to Hamburg with 22 crew members on board, had issues due to contaminated fuel 35 miles northwest of Westray in position 59 37 57.0 N, 003 49 30.6 W, on Sep 20, 2020, at 04.36 a.m. The vessel proceeded at a reduced speed to an anchorage off the Isle of Stronsay, escorted by the emgergeny tug 'Ievoli Black' where it moored at 3 p.m.
At 8.40 a.m. the tug took the vessel in tow to a position east of Orkney, where the crew started repairs after which the vessel resumed its voyage to Hamburg with an ETA as of Sep 23.

The 'Medkon Gemlik', 6310 BRZ (IMO:9103350), while en route from Alexandria to Ambarli, suffered an engine failure, lost power and went adrift north of Bodrumin  position 37 11 18 N, 026 57 28 E, on Sep 15, 2020. The vessel dropped anchor north of Bodrum in position 37 03 48 N, 027 12 26 E on Sep 16. After it turned out that repairs could not be carried out by the crew, the Turkish tug 'Ocean Ergun' (IMO: 7222102) was contracted to tow the vessel to Ambarli. Towing commenced on Sep 17. The convoy arrived at Istanbul on Sep 20 at 1.30 p.m., and the vessel was moved to Tuzla on Sep 21 at 6 a.m., arriving at the shipyard area at 1.10 p.m. for permanent repairs.
