OCEANLINE 5001 Dredger struck tanker, full-speed, Malacca Strait VIDEO Oct 03 07:07
Dredger OCEANLINE 5001 sailing at full speed struck anchored tanker STROVOLOS with moored alongside supply vessel, at around 1140 LT (UTC + 8 ) Oct 2, on Melaka anchorage, Malaysia, Malacca Strait. The results can be seen on video – tanker suffered portside hull breach above waterline and apparently, some damage on cargo deck. Several hours later the ships were separated, tanker remained in the same position, dredger moved to port area, and brought to anchor. Dredger looked very business like while approaching tanker. Nobody on the bridge?

HOEGH XIAMEN arrived Aliaga Anchorage for Scrapped Oct 03 11:00 arrived Aliaga Anchorage 03.10.20
Firefighters suiing for their injuries Sep 02 12:56 Three months after the fire aboard the 'Hoegh Xiamen' in Jacksonville, 10 firefighters injured in a related blast were suing for their injuries. The law firm Pajcic & Pajcic filed a lawsuit on behalf of 10 Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department employees on Sep 1, 90 days after th eexplosion that severely injured some of them. Some had to be treated at the burn unit in Gainesville, and three first responders remained off the job due to their injuries. The cause why the ship caught fire on June 4 in the St. Johns River while at Blount Island was still under investigation, but the plaintiffs’ attorney, Curry Pajcic, said the ship had just been loaded with 2,400 junked cars that were to be transported to western Africa. At 6:45 p.m. June 4, while fighting the fire from the inside, at least 10 firefighters were in the stairwell when there was an explosion on the eighth deck. The Jacksonville-based lawyer described what the Jacksonville firefighters faced putting out a 1,000 degree Fahrenheit fire on a ship filled with scrapped cars. The ship had no flooding sprinkler system an no standpipes that the firefighters could plug their hoses in to put out the fire. They had to drag a hose up the ramp, up the stairwell and into this deck. The explosion was nearly catastrophic. Despite their protective gear, the heat and flames caused severe burns on firefighters, snapping one rescuer’s arm. None of them died, but several were hospitalized, with some sent to the burn unit in Gainesville. With two injured firefighters by his side, Pajcic outlined his reasons for a lawsuit against the companies involved: Hoegh Autoliners, Horizon Terminal Services, Grimaldi Deep Sea and SSA Marine. Together, the companies have offices in Norway, Italy and the United States. Horizon has an office in Ponte Vedra Beach. The plaintiffs are Captain Kristopher Jolly, Lt. Jeremy Lee, Chief Matthew Cipriani, Firefighter Paramedic Shawn O’Shell, Lt. Paul Masci, Firefighter Nicholas Gettler, Engineer Landon Simmons, Firefighter Paramedic Samuel Banks, Firefighter William Reed and Engineer Wesley Miller. Their spouses are also named. The suit claims the crew loaded wrecked and junk cars to send to Africa without disconnecting the batteries and electrical systems. Pajcic said that while in port, the crew shut down the ship’s fire alarm system, and when time was crucial, the crew did not call 911 when the fire started. The crew did not speak English to communicate with first responders trying to learn more about the location of the fire. It took more than 150 firefighters over a week to put out the fire and cost the city of Jacksonville millions of dollars. The Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board were doing separate investigations. There was no amount for the lawsuit. That would be decided in court if the case goes that far.

Container ship saved 194 migrants May 06 2015 10:35 The "Zeran" saved 194 migrants on May 3, 2015, from a rubber boat and took them to Catania. Five refugees drowned when they fell into the water after the engine of the rubber boat exploded off Sicily. The "Zerań" was headed to Libya when it received a call for assistance from the Italian Navy. When the ship reached the boat, some passengers were already overboard. Crew members on the ship shouted for order, a fallreep was going to be lowered, everyone would make it on board. But the prospect of rescue sparked a panic. Some passengers were caught beneath the crush of people, while others were flung into the chilly, blue water. The uneven distribution of weight pushed one end of the dinghy into the water, causing it to deflate and start to sink. After the last passengers had clambered out of the dinghy, five trampled bodies were left floating amid garbage and pools of seawater. Between five and 40 others were thought to have drowned when they were pushed overboard. The crew on board managed to save 81 men, 8 women and 2 children. Italian naval units then transferred a further 103 refugees to the Polish ship, taking the overall number of saved to 194. Despite the crews' best efforts five migrants did not survive the incident. The refugees, mainly Ethiopians, were then transported to the Sicilian port of Catania.
