| IMAGINE OF LIVERPOOL Grounding off Corfu Sep 24 11:14 In the morning of Sep 23, 2020, the 'Imagine of Liverpool' with a crew of two on board ran aground in the area of Avlaki beach of Kassiopi, Corfu. A patrol vehicle immediately rushed to the scene as well as the 'Dias' which managed to pull the ship off again and towed it to the marina of Gouvia, Corfu. The Central Port Authority of Corfu, which was conducting the preliminary investigation, banned the boat from sailing until the presentation of a certificate of seaworthiness. No injuries and no marine pollution were reported.

| PATRICIA OLDENDORFF Half of the crew infected Sep 26 21:56Seven of the remaining nine crew members on the 'Patricia Oldendorff' have been infected with the COVID-19 virus, which meant that almost half the crew are now infected. The ship was held nine nautical miles off the Pilbara coast. A trained private security firm hired to keep watch of the ship, were also under a 14 day isolation. The ship was now unable to dock at Port Hedland. Vessel operators now working with WA authorities on a possible replacement crew. The affected men were aged between 34 and 51. The bulk carrier has been moored nine nautical miles off Port Hedland since Sep 16, 2020, with 20 Filipino nationals and its captain. The vessel was scheduled to berth earlier this week before its captain informed the WA health department that two crew members were showing “flu-like symptoms”. Two nurses, both wearing personal protective equipment, boarded the ship via helicopter to collect samples, with preliminary results coming back positive in the night of Sep 23. The two crew members remained in isolation onboard the ship. Forepeak ballast tank was breached in ensuing water ingress. Not yet clear if the ship was breached as a result of contact during unmooring, or somehow, managed to breach underwater hull when anchoring, probably because of low water. | JOHAN PRINS WR-10 Mussel cutter assisted capsized catamaran Sep 24 20:36The KNRM station Den Oever and the 'Johan Prins WR-10' took action on Sep 24, 2020, for the three crew members of a capsized catamaran on the Wadden Sea about 500 meters from the Monument on the Afsluitdijk. The Coast Guard indicated that there were three people on board, two of whom were in the water. One of the crew had sustained a head injury. For that reason, an ambulance has been called in to be on the safe side. Upon arrival of the lifeboat 'Johanna Margareta' from the Den Oever station, two of the people were standing on a float of the capsized vessel, a third was inside the ship. The three men were brought on board the lifeboat and immediately taken to Den Oever with hypothermic symptoms. At the KNRM station, the shore crew was ready to take over the three and let them warm up inside the boathouse. The 'Johanna Margareta' then returned to the catamaran. With the help of the 'Johan Prins', the ship was raised and towed to the Waddenhaven. After the three crew members had warmed up, they returned to their boat. | Flying Dolphin Athina Engine failure in Aegina Sep 25 09:59Before the departure of the 'Flying Dolphin Athina' for its scheduled service from Aegina to Agistri and Piraeus with 34 passengers on board, the crew was unable to start the starboard main engine in the morning of Sep 23, 2020. The Port Authority of Aegina immediately detained the vessel in port, until the engine was repaired, and a class maintenance certificate was issued. The passengers were forwarded to their destinations by another vessel. Mechanical damage in Piraeus May 24 2019 10:18In the morning hours of May 23, 2019, the Port Authority of Argosaronikos was informed by the captain of the "Flying Dolphin Athina" that the ship had suffered a mechanical damage of the starboard main engine occurred in the port of Piraeus after it arrived from the ports of Agistri and Aegina. The Port Authority of Argosaronikos detained the ferry until the damages were repaired and a class certificate presented by the classification society. | ADLER EXPRESS Ferry rescued missing kite surfer Sep 25 10:51On Sep 23, 2020, the 'Adler Express' rescued one of two kite surfers who were pulled out to sea by strong currents off St. Peter Ording. They had planned to surf to Sylt islands. But off Amrum the wind became too weak, and both men drifted towards the open sea. One of them reached the Kniepsand off Wittdün upon Amrum and was treated by the fire brigade. Rescue services and the DGzRS were alerted and started searching for the other man with the lifeboat 'Ernst Meider-Hedde' and two helicopters. Also the 'Adler Express' diverted to the area by captain Gerrit Vöge. Besides the crew also the passengers were asked to kepp lookout for the kite surfer. After they located him, the Safety Management was activated and the man taken aboard over the bow ramp. Also his board was recovered. The man was then taken to Sylt where he arrived at 6 p.m. The other emergency services were stood down after the successful rescue. Ferry docked due to technical damage Aug 08 2018 11:30Due to a gearbox failure the "Adler Express" had to be taken out of service and was docked at the Husumer Yard in Husum on Aug 7, 2018, at 11.40 p.m. for repairs. The ship was expected to be out of service for about one week. The company adjusted its schedule, and the "Adler VI" and "Adler IV" will cover it along with the "Liinsand" which was chartered for the sailings between the mainland and the islands Amrum, Hooge, Föhr and Sylt. Some sailings from Hörnum had to be cancelled. Repairs of grounding damage completed Jul 31 2015 10:44The "Adler Express" was due to return to service on Aug 1 after completition of repairs of the grounding damage suffered on July 11. Since the ship was in the yard, the "Adler IV" and "Adler V" were sailing on an emergency schedule between Nordstrand, Hooge, Amrum and Sylt. Frames at the bottom of the hull had to be replaced on an area of 30 square meters in drydock in Husum which took longer than expected due to a complex structure of the bottom. The ship was back in the water on July 30 and was inspected by the German Lloyd. On July 31 at 10.40 a.m. it left Husum bound for Nordstrand. | MARE JONIO Italian authorities prohibited crew members to board Sep 25 11:38The Italian authorities have prohibited two crew members of the 'Mare Jonio' of the Italian NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans, from boarding the ship in Pozzallo on Sep 25, 2020, thus preventing them from setting sail for their migrant rescue mission, alleging that their profiles did not correspond to the "type of service performe by the Mare Jonio". Like almost all humanitarian ships, the ship is not registered as a search and rescue vessel, but as a merchant ship with cargo and surveillance functions. Despite the fact that the Italian naval registry has recognized it as a search and rescue equipped ship, the coast guard does not admit it. The NGO denounced in a statement that they did not allow a lifeguard paramedic and an expert in search and rescue at sea to board, therefore "the activity in the Mediterranean of Mare Jonio is blocked." Since the departure on June 9 from the port of Trapani, they explain that two investigations have been opened in the Ragusa prosecutor's office against the master and shipowners, being accused of "failure to comply with the requirements of the authorities" due to the rescue of 67 people on June 19 and the trasnfer of them aboard the merchant ship 'Maersk Etienne' on Sep 12. "Obviously, it is a selective administrative and judicial persecution that arises from a precise political will of the Government, and that contains a clear and terrible message and has an equally deadly objective," they pointed out. At the moment there was no humanitarian ship in the central Mediterranean, after the judicial authorities also immobilized the 'Sea Watch 4'. Its other ship, the 'Sea Wach 3', was also immobilized and a few days ago it was allowed to leave the port of Porto Empedocle only to move to the port of Burriana. The same happened during the summer with the 'Aita Mari' of the NGO Humanitarian Maritime Rescue., while the crew of the 'Open Arms' has been keeping the quarantine required by the pandemic at the port of Palermo. Rescued migrants arrived at Pozzallo Sep 14 12:06On Sep 12 the 27 migrants who had embarked from the 'Maersk Etienne' to the 'Mare Jonio' arrived in Pozzallo,38 days after the rescue by the tanker. The'Maersk Etienne' was able to set course for Gibraltar on Sep 11, where the crew will now be debriefed. Maersk Tankers had contacted the NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans after the company had become increasingly concerned about the physical and mental health of the migrants. There were continued challenges with minor medical deficiencies and threats to go on hunger strike. When the health staff of the 'Mare Jonio' examined the migrants aboard the 'Maersk Etienne', it turned out that the rescued people needed immediate treatment in suitable facilities.. Maersk was grateful that Mediterranea Saving Humans has helped the company put an end to an event that has been unprecedented. 43 migrants landed in Augusta Jul 01 19:12The 43 migrants rescued on June 30 by the 'Marre Jonio' in the central Mediterranean were disembarked in the morning of July 1 in Augusta, in the province of Syracuse. The port was assigned the evening before by the MRCC Maritime Coordination Center of Rome. The 43 castaways were in good health and were to be transferred to a reception facility.
