| STAR BALBOA Tanker searched for drugs since August, nothing found, but search will go on Oct 11 06:54Product tanker STAR BALBOA is stuck at Port of Spain anchorage, Trinidad and Tobago, since Aug 29. Tanker was detained shortly after arrival, on a drug trafficking suspicion, says local news outlet “NEWSDAY Trinidad and Tobago”. Local law enforcement, tipped off by the US DEA, is searching tanker for drugs ever since, found nothing, and in bitter disappointment, but still hoping for “happy end”, demanded cargo tanks to be emptied of their cargo, to continue search. To enliven bleak existence of the crew, authorities found nearly all of them to be positive tested, so for the crew, it’s fun all around, 24/7. A team of lawyers representing tanker owner and crew, are trying to stop this insanity and release tanker, while owner demands compensation of US$11,700 daily, starting Sep 2. DEA meanwhile, said they’re ready to intervene and assist local anti-drug counterparts in their search. Isn’t seamen life romantic and adventurous? The Royal Navy vessel HMS 'Magpie' went alongside the casualty prior to the arrival of the lifeboat and transferred a dewatering pump onto the vessel which was four miles east of Weymouth Harbour. Upon its arrival the lifeboat deployed two crew members and a larger pump onto the 'Smit Frome' which managed to stem the flow of water sufficiently enough to allow the stricken vessel to be towed to the Portland Marina where it could be lifted out of the water. | Alan Kurdi seized again Oct 11 19:08The 'Alan Kurdi', which had berthed Olbia on Sep 25 to disembark 125 migrants rescued in the central Mediterranean Sea, has been seized again on Oct 9. Italian authorites stated to have found technical defiencies during an inspection, threatening the crew and rescued migrants. Alan Kurdi quarantined in Olbia Sep 28 11:31After a final night on board also those migrants who had to remain on board the "Alan Kurdi" disembarked in Olbia pn Sep 26. All 125 castaways and the crew of the vessel were swapped for COVID-19. The Italian authorities ordered a two weeks quarantine for the crew. The captain had asked to be permitted to sail to Marseille after the disembarkation which was refused. 10 positive tested migrants, all asymptomatic, were immediately isolated in tents provided by the civil protection and will then be transferred to a structure made available by the Curia, in Olbia. Here they will be assisted by the medical staff of the Health Protection Company of the Region and by the volunteers of the Red Cross, until they are negativized to the Covid-19 virus. Alan Kurdi Authorities interrupted disembarkation in Olbia Sep 26 22:23About 125 migrants rescued by the "Alan Kurdi" were disembarked in the evening of Sep 25 at the industrial port of Olbia. The landing was interrupted at 8:30 p.m. by the Italian authorities. The rest of the people on board had to stay on the eck and sleep in the open, in the cold, and in the wind, until the morning of Sep 26. Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese had previously informed that only 25 of the migrants aboard the "Sea Eye" vessel would be able to stay in Italy. The remaining 100 were expected to be relocated to other European countries, a transfer still to be clarified. Those who disembarked were sued for identification and medical examinations. Among them were 50 minors. The process of disembarking the migrants at Olbia has been hampered by the lack of available personnel. All city traffic police and part of the local Civil Protection personnel were quarantined at home after a police officer has been tested positive for the new coronavirus. Alan Kurdi now allowed entry to Arbatax Sep 24 20:41The 'Alan Kurdi', with 125 migrants on board, was to dock in the port of Arbatax, Sardinia, on Sep 24. Previously, the NGO Sea Eye, based in Regensburg, had indicated to have been contacted by the Italian authorities on Sep 23 at midnight to discuss after five days the opportunity to shelter from bad weather in Arbatax. More than 50 minors were on board the vessel. The French government spokesman Gabriel Attal said on Sep 23 that the ship was to "be received in the nearest safe port", with France declining any possibility of letting the ship dock at Marseilles. Earlier, the city had in fact said it was ready to welcome the ship "unconditionally". ALAN KURDI Rescue ship underway to Marseille Sep 23 20:52The 'Alan Kurdi' has announced that it is setting sail for France after it was refused entry to ports in Italy and Malta. The ship rescued 133 migrants over the weekend. On Sep 23, the rescue organization Sea-Eye announced that its ship was heading to Marseille with an ETA as of Sep 25. Since the weekend, the 'Alan Kurdi' has been waiting about 12 nautical miles off Sicily for a safe harbour in which to disembark the migrants on board. However, it was refused entry to Sicilian and Maltese ports. On Sep 22, the Italian Coastguard did facilitate the evacuation of two women, one man and five children, including a five-month-old baby. However the remaining passengers looked like they might be in for another long wait before a disembarkation was allowed. 133 migrants rescued within 12 hours Sep 21 13:06The 'Alan Kurdi' rescued 133 distressed migrants in the Mediterranean Sea within 12 hours in two operatons. 90 people were taken aboard from a rubber boat, 24 from a small wooden boat and 19 from another wooden boat. 62 of the castaways were minors, also pregnant women were among the rescued. They were coming from 15 contries such as Sudan, Nigeria, Egypt,, Bangla Desh and Libya. The ship headed to Lampedusa and asked the Italian authorities for permission to disembark the migrants. Detention in Palermo lifted Fri Jun 26 11:02The detention of the 'Alan Kurdi', which had started on May 5 in Palermo has ended, and the ship left hte port on June 25, headed to Burriana, ETA June 29. On June 10 Sea-Eye found an agreement with the Italian Coastguard that the ship could be released if Germany and the Spanish authorities agreed to receive the ship within its territory. After the ship had saved 150 distressed migrants off Libya, it had proceeded to Palermo and was blocked for 11 days by the Italian authorities, followed by a two-week quarantine of the crew. During an inspection the Coastguard claimed to have found serios defiencies regarding the sewage system, the toilets and the garbage disposal devices of the ship, which was contradicted by Sea Eye on May 7. A petition to free the ship was supported by 55.000 people. The costs of 70.000 Euro which amounted during the detention could be paid by the initiative "United 4 Rescue" of the Evangelic Church in Germany. Rescue ship finally docked in Palermo Tue May 05 12:19Sea rescue members cheered the arrival in port of the ferry 'Raffaele Rubattino' carrying 146 rescued migrants being cared for by the Red Cross. On MAy 4, the 'Alan Kurdi', also came into Palermo's port after 36 days at sea. The crew had had to be quarantined before they were allowed to dock. The Italian authorities seized the 'Alan Kurdi' after its arrival in Palermo on May 5 due to irregularities threatening people on board. No details were mentioned. The ship was banned from sailing until the defiencies have been addressed.
