MORHOLMEN Two crew members medevaced off freeport
Oct 09 09:10

The US Coast Guard medevaced a 29-year-old and a 57-year-old crew member from the ''Morholmen', which was enroute from Houston to Galveston, approximately 25 miles off Freeport, Texas, on Oct 8, 2020. Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received two medevac requests at 1:20 p.m. from the captain of the tanker for a crew member who was experiencing abdominal pain, and another crew member who was displaying stroke symptoms. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon who recommended a medevac for both crewmembers. A Coast Guard Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew launched to assist. The Dolphin crew hoisted both crewmembers and transported them to awaiting emergency medical services personnel at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Houston in stable condition.

PACIFIC DAWN Cruise ship to become floating residence Satoshi
Oct 09 09:17

The 'Pacific Dawn' will become a floating community permanently anchored in the Gulf of Panama. The Ocean Builders company that is also developing floating, off-grid seapod homes, has entered into a deal to acquire the  cruise ship which was being sold by P&O’s parent company Carnival Corporation as they work to rationalize their fleet accelerating disposals due to the impact of the pandemic on the cruising.
The company is scheduled to take delivery of the cruise ship on Nov 4 in the Mediterranean. They are working with Columbia Cruise Services to take care of the management of the operations of the ship which will be renamed 'Satoshi'.
Also being referred to as “The Crypto Cruise Ship,” Ocean Builders plans to begin auctioning of cabins on Nov 5, the day after they take ownership of the former 'Pacific Dawn'. Starting with the staterooms on Deck 10, they plan to sell them in a similar fashion to a condo. Buyers will acquire full, indefinite ownership of their cabin paying a monthly fee to cover operating expenses and subject to condo-style rules.
The first sale is to consist of 200 cabins in auctions scheduled to run from November 5 to 28. They are tentatively being priced at between $25,000 and $50,000. A total of 777 cabins will be available for a total occupancy of 2,020 people.
The plan is to offer cabins for sale one deck at a time moving down the ship’s decks as they sell out on one deck.
Residents will also have access to all of the ship’s amenities ranging from the restaurants to bars, lounges, and casinos as well as the fitness center. The commercial space will be operated by individual companies and Ocean Builders is hoping to attract business owners to operate those spaces while living aboard.
Residents will either pay as you go for services or Ocean Builders plan to offer meal plans. Because the cabins will not be retrofitted into apartments with kitchens, residents will be eligible for a 20 percent discount at all the restaurants.
The Crypto Cruise Ship is being prepared to set sail from the Mediterranean and will anchor in the Gulf of Panama. It will be a 30-minute ferry ride from the ship to reach Panama City. Ship operations will be run by a spinoff company called Viva Vivas. According to the current plan, the 'Satoshi' would be available for residency early in 2021

Pacific Dawn sold to undisclosed buyer
Sep 30 11:34

The 'Pacific Dawn' which operates between Australia and New Zealand and the South Pacific will be leaving the P&O fleet ahead of schedule. She was set to be sold to Cruise & Maritime Voyages at the end of the 2021 season. However, following the collapse of CMV in late July 2020, the deal was sunk, and P&O was left trying to find a new buyer for the ship. It was originally planned for the 'Pacific Dawn' to leave the fleet in February 2021, but this has now been brought forward to facilitate a sale which was announced on Sep 28 by the cruise line. The vessel will now be leaving service on Dec 17, with all sailings after this date cancelled. P&O will be offering assistance to passengers affected by this decision, many of whom are based in Australia and New Zealand.

PACIFIC DAWN to be sold to CMV

NORD SANTIAGO ITF disabled Filipino bulk carrier in Estonia
Oct 08 16:46

Filipino bulk carrier NORD SANTIAGO was detained by Estonian Maritime Authorities on request of Estonian Seamen trade union inspector and ITF representative, one Jaanus Kuiv, who found, that employment contracts of all 18 crew were expired. The ship berthed at Muuga (Tallinn) on Oct 4, on arrival from Senegal via Norway. Owner is requested to carry out crew change. Foreign crew change in Estonia is allegedly possible, but who knows though, if it’s possible in real life, for all-Filipino crews, both off and on signers. As of Oct 8, bulk carrier remained in the same position.

Hornsea Two: The world's largest wind farm starts to take shape
Oct 09 07:43

Located approximately 89 km, or 55.3 miles off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea and adjacent to Hornsea One, the world's largest offshore wind farm is taking shape at an unprecedented pace. The project is designated to be completed by 2022.
In a recent boost for the project, the first six transition pieces for the offshore wind farm have now arrived at the Buss Terminal of the Dutch town of Eemshaven. The recent development was announced by The Buss Energy Group.
We analyzed the vessel traffic in the Hornsea area and found out that there was an offshore construction vessel, namely the INNOVATION that is supporting installation work. Vessel PACIFIC ORCA is contracted to support installation works in 2021.
In August 2015, project developer Ørsted, which was previously known as Dong Energy, gained the rights to the project through the acquisition of SMartWind, a joint venture between Mainstream Renewable Power (50%) and Siemens Financial Services (50%).
Covering an area of 4,735km², the Hornsea Zone has the potential to generate more than 4GW of renewable energy, which would account for 4% of the UK’s overall power generation capacity.
The zone is situated off the Yorkshire coast, where the normal water depth ranges between 30m and 40m, reaching to a maximum depth of 70m.
The world’s largest offshore wind farm will comprise 165 Siemens Gamesa 8.0-167 DD turbines. The turbines will operate at a nominal power of 8,000kW, providing electricity to some 2 million British households.
With a total capacity of 1,386MW, the wind farm is expected to be the largest of its kind worldwide upon its completion.
Buss Terminal Eemshaven serves as the base port for the project after the company won a tendering procedure from the client Deme Offshore in February.
Buss provides the staff and storage space required for the project. In addition, it is also responsible for project management for the basic port logistics and the large equipment required. The transition pieces are unloaded from the transport barge using an LR1750 crawler crane. When on the terminal, Buss uses a gantry crane on SPMT axes to move the transition pieces, which weigh almost 350 tons. The monopiles, which weigh up to 1230 tons, are also moved using SPMT axes and transport saddles. The self-propelled transporter has 96 pendulum axles and can hydraulically raise and lower the monopiles. From Eemshaven, the foundation sets are taken to the “INNOVATION” installation ship - and then to the “Hornsea Two” construction site around 89 kilometers off the Yorkshire Coast.
