YM MANDATE Ship is no longer leaking oil
Oct 02 09:54

The 'YM Mandate' was no longer leaking fuel oil at the Port of New York and New Jersey. The crew had realized the vessel was leaking fuel oil after completing bunkering operations in Bayonne, and the master immediately reported the incident to the Cpast Guard and all concerned parties pursuant to its USCG-approved vessel response plan. An oil containment boom was deployed without delay and skimming vessels were engaged to remove any spilled oil. To prevent further leaking, the oil from the affected tank was being transferred to the vessel's other internal tanks. The Yang Ming headquarters mobilized an oil barge to the vessel to complete debunkering operations. Clean-up crews have successfully recovered much of the oil that has been released and were continuing to do so until regulatory authorities have been satisfied. The ship remained stationary at the Global MArine Terminal as of Oct 2.

YM MANDATE Oil spill response continued
Oct 01 09:22

A unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Gallagher Marine Systems, continued in the response to the oil spill from the 'YM Mandate' at the Global Container Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey on Sep 30. The vessel was no longer leaking fuel oil from the crack in the hull. Fuel oil was being pumped from the affected tank to a barge alongside the vessel. Oil containment booms and absorbent pads were deployed around the ship, and skimming vessels continued to remove oil from the water.
Fuel oil will continue to be pumped from the affected tank until it is empty and repairs to the hull can be made.

Oil sheen was spotted alongside container ship YM MANDATE, berthed at Bayonne Container Terminal, New Jersey, on Sep 28. CG carried out investigation, and found, that fuel oil was seeping from bunker tank crack. Barge was deployed to siphon fuel from damaged tank on Sep 30. Tank is to be repaired after all fuel is pumped out. As of morning Oct 1, the ship remained in the same position.

YM MANDATE Container ship lost oil through crack
Sep 30 11:21

On Sep 28, 2020, the 'YM Mandate' was leaking fuel oil into New York harbour after its arrival at the Global Marine Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey, coming from Halifax. A small crack in the ship's hull breached a tank with a capacity of 462,297 gallons. A response team was managing the situation. The US Coast Guard was contacted by the National Response Center after an oil sheen was seen near the ship. The crew activated its approved response plan. The ship was due to sail for Savannah, Georgia.
A Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team in the area located a small crack in the  hull which was leaking the fuel oil. A unified command consisting of the Coast Guard, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, and Gallagher Marine Systems, was responding. Oil containment boom and absorbent pads have been deployed around the 'YM Mandate'. In addition, skimming vessels started to remove oil from the water. All oil was currently contained within the boom and skimmer system. Internal transfer of fuel oil from the affected tank was also being conducted.

CELESTYAL EXPERIENCE Cruise debut in March 2021
Oct 02 10:28

The 'Costa NeoRomantica' has been renamed as 'Celestyal Experience' by the Celestyal Cruises after having been sold by Costa Crociere. The first cruise is due to start on March 6 in Piraeus with calls in Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Cyprus and Rhodes. Starting on April 3, one week cruises with calls at Athens, Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Milos, Mykonos and Kuşadasi will be offered.

Cruises cancelled due to coronavirus
Jan 27 18:36

Citing urgent guidelines from the Chinese goverment to combat the spread of the coronavirus, Costa Crociere, MSC, Royal Caribbean and Genting Cruise Lines have immediately suspended cruise operations in mainland China.
Costa has cancelled sailings on the 'Costa Serena' for Jan. 25 and 31, 2020; the 'Costa Atlantica' on Jan. 27 and 31; the Costa Venezia' on Jan 26. and Feb. 2 and the 'Costa neoRomantica' on Jan. 25, 30 and Feb. 2.
Costa Cruises said guests are eligible for a full refund; or can choose an alternative sailing date before the end of the year along with a $50 onboard credit.
MSC cancelled its Jan. 28 departure aboard the 'MSC Splendida' from Shanghai, which was scheduled to sail four nights; while Royal Caribbean cancelled its Jan. 27 sailing on the 'Spectrum of the Seas', also scheduled to depart from Shanghai.
Travel agencies have been instructed to stop group tours, which make up most of the Chinese cruise industry. In addition, China halting outbound group could have an effect on the industry's reliance of China as a source market for ships sailing in Europe, Alaska and North America.
Genting's Dream Cruises brand has cancelled a turnaround call in Guangzhou for the 'World Dream', but will continue to operate from Hong Kong, according to a statement as the ship interports between both homeports.
Other operators with a presence in China during the winter included the 'Astro Ocean', which has yet to issue any statements regarding close-in deployment, but could follow suit during the high-yielding weeks of Chinese New Year.

Crew member arrested due to suspected rape
Mar 17 2017 10:25

After the "Costa Naoromantica" berthed at Port Louis in the afternoon of March 17, 2017, one of its 600 crew members was arrested by police officers of the departmental security which were on the quay at the arrival of the ship. The Nepalese national was suspected of a rape perpetrated during a previous stopover in Marseilles. A complaint was lodged with the public prosecutor's office in Agen which opened a judicial investigation entrusted to an investigating judge. Believing that the evidence in his possession was sufficiently serious and consistent, the investigating magistrate issued an arrest warrant against the man. The Nepalese was taken to the courthouse of Champ Fleuri to be placed under arrest warrant. He was incarcerated while awaiting his transfer by aircraft to Agen.

BELLA DESGAGNES Crew member tested positive for COVID-19
Oct 02 11:04

One crew member of the 'Bella-Desgagnés' has tested positive for COVID-19 on Oct 1, 2020 after leaving the ship. The Relais Nordik company that provides maritime services to Anticosti and the Lower North Shore was notified in the morning. Public Health was carrying out an epidemiological investigation to isolate the people who have been in contact with the engine room worker. He likely had no contact with any passengers. Public Health was studying the additional measures to be taken for the safe transport of food and essential goods in the isolated communities as the ferry was sidelined for the time being.

Ferry back in service
Sep 29 2019 12:32

On Sep 28 the 'Bella Desgagnés' returned to service after six days off. The ferry which supplies goods and equipment to the Middle and Lower North Shore, resumed service in the morning with an ETA at Port Menier as of 11 a.m. before continuiing to Romouski. Shewas docked in Sept-Îles since Sep 22 due to a problem with one of its thrusters. The ship was to resume her normal schedule on Sep 30 with an evening departure to the North Shore. Communities on the Lower North Shore will have to wait until the middle of the week to get supplies, if all goes as planned. The 'Bella Desgagnés' was expected in Kegaska on Oct 2, before sailing to communities further east, to reach Friday Blanc-Sablon with both the cargo of last week and this week to minimize the degradation of perishable foods in these cargoes. The mechanical damage of the 'Bella Desgagnés' had caused significant food supply problems in the Lower North Shore. There were no more fruits and vegetables to buy. Faced with the lack of supply this week, the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) was asked organize the delivery of food by air in the communities of the Lower North Shore, as is the case during winter, though air shipping is not a simple solution and is also not ideal for storing perishable goods. Air delivery is also a major logistical challenge considering that dozens of flights which would be needed to deliver tons of cargo.

Ferry sidelined with bow thruster trouble
Sep 24 2019 12:24

The "Bella Desgagnés was being docked in Sept-Îles since Sep 22, 2019, due to a problem with one of her thrusters. The company Relay Nordik, which operates the ship, expected that the supply of the Middle and Lower North Shore could be resumed on Sep 25. A short circuit in an engine that drives the ship's port propeller was at stake. Finding the exact source of the problem was not an easy task as the mechanics tried to diagnose the problem, having to look at each of the cables, every electrical connection to determine the source of the short circuit. Experts from Sept-Îles, specialized in the repair of this type of equipment, were called as a reinforcement. In parallel, a replacement engine was delivered from Relais Nordik's warehouses to Sept-Îles, but it would be better to fix the problem rather than being forced to change the engine, an operation that would require several more days of work.

First tanker with Iranian fuel docked in El Palito
May 25 12:42

Five tankers carrying Iranian fuel heading to Venezuela amid rising tensions over a possible US move to halt delivery. The first of five Iranian vessels, the 'Fortune', entered El Plaito Port on May 25, 2020, encountering no immediate signs of US interference amid a diplomatic standoff. Amid heightened tensions over what Venezuelan authorities described as threats from the United States, the vessel officially entered Venezuela's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on May 23 at about 7:30 p.m. The Bolivarian Armed Forces escorted the ship to Puorto Cabello. The other four ships - the 'Forest', 'Petunia', 'Faxon' and 'Clavel' - were expected to arrive in the coming days. The shipments have caused a diplomatic standoff between the US, Iran and Venezuela, which are both under harsh US economic sanctions. Washington was reportedly considering measures in response.

MARELLA DREAM Cruise ship retired from Marella fleet
Oct 02 11:34

The 'Marella Dream' is being retired from the fleet of Marella Cruises after nearly 10 years of service. The decision to make big changes to its programme came due to the ongoing travel restrictions for UK cruise lines still in place. All of the ship's itineraries and sailings due to take place from Oct 26, 2020. and beyond will be cancelled. Meanwhile, her summer 2021 sailings were being moved to cruise ship 'Marella Discovery', with the latter being redeployed from Europe instead of the USA. The 'Marella Dream' has been berthed in Gazenica since July 11.

Medevac off Algeciras
Apr 08 10:02

On April 7, 2020, the 'Marella Dream' which was lingering off Algeciras without passenders on board, requested the medevac of a sick crew member from board. Salvamento Marítimo deployed the SAR boat 'Salvamar Denébola' from Algeciras to take the patient, an Italian national of 60 years, off. He was safely transferred aboard and taken to Algeciras, where he was transferred to the Quirón hospital in Los Barrios.

Crusie ship disembarked deceased crew member in Malaga
Mar 28 23:24

On March 28, 2020, at 9 a.m. the 'Marella Dream' docked in the port of Malaga to disembark a dead crew member, 48, of Indonesian nationality. The ship had remained anchored in the vicinity of Gibraltar since March 16. The ship was assisted by the tugs 'Vehintisiete' and 'Trheinta' and a pilot and was moored at the southern dock of the Levante maritime station. After carrying out the disembarkation operation of the deceasedwith all the security measures, the vessel left the Malaga waters 1,5 hours later again without a fixed course. The cruise had started on March 1 a with an eight-night itinerary with stops in Porto, Lisbon, Cádiz, Casablanca and Gibraltar,. The ship was forced to cancel its trips and disembarked all its passengers  at the port of Malaga on March 15. The initial intention of this ship was to remain docked in Malaga waters until the end of the quarantine established by the Spanish government, the 'Marella Dream' left the port that same day for Gibraltar, but after a sick man was detected on board, the British authorities have forced the ship to leave its waters. Without a destination and with the possibility that there were more patients on board, the 'Marella Dream' was awaiting orders now.
