| 9 September 2006 French U.N. peacekeepers unload equipment from the French ship La Foudre at the seaport of Beirut, Saturday, Sept. 9, 2006. The ship carrying 200 French troops and some 100 military vehicles docked at Beirut port Saturday to join the U.N. peacekeeping force in south Lebanon monitoring a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas. "Il n'y aura pas de problème pendant trois ou quatre mois" au Liban, "parce que tout de même le Hezbollah est un peu diminué", a dit le président au Premier ministre espagnol Jose Luis Zapatero, au cours d'un aparté filmé par les caméras de télévision en marge du 6e sommet entre l'Europe et l'Asie. "Mais dans trois, quatre ou cinq mois, ça peut être dangereux. Je suis un peu inquiet pour l'avenir", a ajouté le président français. Selon lui, l'évolution de la situation "dépendra des négociations avec l'Iran", le principal soutien de la milice chiite au Liban. La France a décidé d'envoyer 2.000 soldats pour renforcer la Force intérimaire des Nations unies au Liban (FINUL) et l'Espagne 1.100. La FINUL devrait compter à terme 15.000 casques bleus. Jacques Chirac a expliqué qu'il trouvait "très important" que "l'Europe et les pays musulmans, en particulier d'Asie", se retrouvent dans cette force. "Ca, c'est très positif." La FINUL accueillera notamment en son sein des soldats venus d'Indonésie, de Turquie et de Malaisie.
